MCI To Elect Next MCI President But It Will Be Contingent Upon Pending Writ Petition In Calcutta High Court

Supreme Court on Monday (December 9) did not grant stay of the proposed Medical Council of India (MCI) meeting scheduled to be held on December 10-11, 2013 where the next MCI president and vice-president would be chosen by members who already have bee elected and/or nominated from different states as the Apex Court said that Calcutta High Court has already issued notice in this matter and will decide the original write petition filed by PBT president Dr. Kunal Saha and two other Kolkata doctors who are also candidates in the ongoing election for MCI from the state of West Bengal.  The pending writ petition in Calcutta High Court will come up for next hearing in January with the High Court giving three weeks times to MCI to file their response.  We all can hope that MCI will refrain from electing the next president until all MCI members are elected and nominated from all parts of India to make the next MCI president and vice-president bona fide and acceptable for all doctors and ordinary people of India.
