Anwar Ali, a poor laundry businessman in Nadia, about 100 km from Kolkata, lost his only son from a simple bout of diarrhea due to gross medical negligence by two doctors, Hiren Mukherjee and K.P. Biswas, at the Saktinagar Hospital almost 5 years ago. He has been running everywhere in search of justice. A criminal case was lodged against the two doctors almost 5 years ago which is still languishing in the court. Even Mamta Banerjee’s office has instructed for expeditious justice but to no avail. PBT has been fighting for Anwar ever since he came to us seeking help in his quest for justice. PBT president, Dr. Kunal Saha, has provided medical opinion in this case and since Dr. Saha was in India last month, he agreed to provide testimony to the investigating police from Nadia. Unfortunately, the police officer eventually backed out from taking Dr. Saha’s deposition. Poor victims like Anwar Ali have little hope to find justice against the errant doctors in India. But PBT will continue to fight not only for the poor victims like Anwar but also for the victims from middle-class and even wealthy families who also find it virtually impossible to get justice against the influential and errant medicos (See Anwar’s story in Hindustan Times below).
