Hearing In Anuradha Saha Death Case Ends: Final Judgment On Compensation Awaited

The more than 2-week long “final argument” on the amount of compensation to be paid by the three doctors (Sukumar Mukherjee, Baidyanath Halder and Balaram Prasad) and Advanced Medicare Research Institute (AMRI) in Kolkata who were previously found responsible for the wrongful death of Anuradha Saha by the Supreme Court has ended.  The National Consumers Forum (NCDRC) has reserved the judgment.  The total claim of compensation in this historic battle against “medical negligence” now stands at more than 94 crores (plus interests for the last 12-plus years) after Anuradha’s husband, Dr. Kunal Saha, claimed added compensation for his pain and suffering for the hardship in conducting the legal battle from USA.  Dr. Saha has also filed a new affidavit during his final argument before the bench in the NCDRC (presided by retired justice Mr. R. C. Jain) that except for his legal expenses, the entire compensation would be donated for promotion of better healthcare and poor children of India.  Millions of ordinary citizens and victims of medical malpractice in India are eagerly waiting for the final verdict.
